Myauk-U, the last royal capital of
Rakhine, was founded by King Minsawmon in 1430 A.D. And had maintained its highest prosperity for 355 years till 1785 A.D. Numberous lakes, pagodas, remains of building and other vestiges indicate that it was the site of a once important and glamorous city.
The main attraction lies in Shitthaung Pagoda or the Shrine of 80,000 images built by King Minbin who reigned Rakhine from 1531 to 1553 A.D. After the successful decence again the Portuguese attack on the city of
