Visa
Requirements
An entry visa for Myanmar can be obtained from any Myanmar
Embassy or Consulate world-wide. Visa-on-arrival can also be pre-arranged by
Golden Myanmar Travel provided that the traveller's passport particulars must
be received at least 10 working days in advance and the names must be cleared
from the black list at the Myanmar Immigration Bureau. Visas are valid for 28 days
and are extendable for 14 more days.
Health Precaution Issue
No vaccinations are officially
required for a visit to Myanmar, but malaria prophylaxis is recommended and,
if traveling to remote or border areas, the travelers should check with their
own doctor or a travel immunization clinic regarding the advisability of
inoculation against typhoid, hepatitis, tetanus and Japanese encephalitis.
Arrival Procedures
A
representative from Golden
Myanmar Travel will welcome travelers on arrival
after immigration and customs control points have been passed. The
representative will display a Golden
Myanmar Travel sign for easy
recognition.
Customs Formalities
All items of jewellery, electrical goods, cameras and foreign
currency in excess of US$ 20,000 must be declared upon arrival and on the
currency declaration forms. Travelers should have completed these forms during
the flight to Yangon and should submit them upon arrival. No Myanmar currency
may be imported or exported.
Duty free allowance is 400 cigarettes and one litre of wine
or spirit. Export of Buddha images, gemstones and antiques without an official
receipt is prohibited.
Airport Departure Tax
Departure airport tax for international
flights is US$ 10.-, per person, payable in US currency or FECs. No departure
airport tax for domestic flights. (Subject to change without notice).
Domestic Mode of Transport
Domestic
air services have improved greatly over recent years, but public train,
ferryboat and bus services are still generally unreliable and uncomfortable. Golden
Myanmar Travel guests will travel usually by reliable Air Mandalay or
Yangon Airways ATR-72 flights and by air-conditioned car or bus. In remote
areas, however, air-conditioned vehicles may not always be available and
travelers should be advised that the quality of roads varies throughout
Myanmar, from reasonable to bad. Due to road conditions, long distance
overland travel generally takes longer than the traveler might
expect-averaging only 40-50 km/hr. Baggage allowance on domestic flights is
limited to 20kg. Excess luggage can be left in Yangon hotels for collection on
return from upcountry.
